Unit 1 Main Oxidants and Observation
The troposphere includes a mixture of many compounds.
|
Most of them are transformed by oxidation. What are the major oxidants? And how can we measure the compounds in the atmosphere and their reaction products? In Unit 1 we give an introduction to the major oxidants during day and night, tell a bit of their chemistry and give examples for important modern measurement techniques, which help to observe them.

We will discuss only the basic atmospheric chemistry in this unit. But get an idea what happens to such a simple molecule as butane (e.g. from camping cookers) in the air. Click the image for a better view! image: Dr. Tim Jungkamp, BASF, Antwerpen, Belgium
