Unit 3: Acid rain
Acid rain is only one kind of acid deposition which can be both dry and wet. Acid rain endangeres our healt directly and indirectly. When we breathe acid fog our respiratory system can be injured, and when acid water comes out of our tap it can contain heavy metals which cause many serious diseases.

Each of us can do something to counteract acid rains. It is easier to limit their causes than to neutralise the effects. Therefore, first of all we should limit the emissions of NOx and SO2, e.g. by filtering the exhaust gases from factories and cars. Using better technology, e.g. catalytic converters, can also be very helpful. However, when the acid rain occurs, all we can do is neutralise its effects, and liming is the most widely used method.
