As we said in the introduction to the basic level on Food and Climate there is now concern that changes in climate in different regions due to global warming have the potential for affecting food production, crop pests and diseases, and production costs. The negative impacts are expected to fall disproportionately on the poor.
In this second level we will talk about the evolution of agriculture in the past and how it will change in the future due to the new conditions of climate. We will talk about the importance of the use of models in order to predict how the future will be and what we can do to change the actual conditions in order to avoid undesired impacts.
The third chapter on Drought in the Mediterranean is used as an example of a very vulnerable area to climate change and how models have been used to predict the future that might affect agriculture and other economical sectors. |
