Task 1: Three stone stove
You are invited by a teacher in Kenya to tell young pupils what a three stone stove is, how it works, what it emits and about what they need to be careful. Explain in about 10 sentences.
Task 2: Energy consumption
Describe in a short article of less than half a page, how you expect the energy consumption in Africa to develop in general and which energy sources will be the most favoured in the next three decades. Give reasons for your answers.
Task 3: Role play – new cooking technology
Form groups of four in the classroom.
Play the role of four people:
Daniel Brown is sales assistant of a Western company selling petroleum driven stoves. He meets Pascal Leclerc, a co-worker from a development project in a café in Bulawayo, a large town in Zimbabwe. Pascal is accompanied by Franklin Kweko, who lives in Bulawayo and sells firewood and petroleum at the market. Evans Nyogome, the second companion, is in the town for two days only. Usually he lives with his family as a farmer in the countryside about 40 km away from Bulawayo.
Daniel Brown would like to open a small shop and sell 4 plate petroleum stoves for 60 USD. Pascal Leclerc and the two natives discuss with him advantages and disadvantages.
Discuss in the classroom.
