Understanding and observation of the mid atmosphere

The region of the atmosphere above the tropopause is called stratosphere. Here, we try to understand, in which way the stratosphere differs from the troposphere. Why are there layers in the air at all? How can they be defined?

We explain changes with altitude, changes in physical and meteorological parameters and also differences in the chemical composition. Terms like mixing ratio are discussed. Finally, we will examine, how modern measuring technologies with satellites and lasers give us insight into the upper atmosphere.
